Tallgrass Restoration: Land stewards providing ecological solutions: native plant installation, erosion control, invasive species control, natural areas management and prescribed burns

Tallgrass Restoration and Elgin High School: A Working Partnership

Tallgrass Restoration, LLC of Schaumburg joined Elgin High School for the second year during their restoration workday Thursday, February 4, 2010. Close to 180 Environmental Science students from Deb Perryman, Brigid Trimble and Barbara Roth’s classes joined us in their 40 acre Oak/Hickory Woodland in the Polar Creek watershed that they use as an outdoor classroom. The students and Tallgrass helped to clear invasive brush in efforts to restore the Woodland. This is a rare and unique ecosystem in Elgin with a Spring-fed Fen. In the early spring, skunk cabbage is the first to bloom all throughout the site. During the summer, columbine, shooting star and Dutchman’s breeches are found blooming along the Poplar Creek.
